Results From "The Game"

Cory shoots a 28 on the front nine (lowest score on the front nine ever for a round from "The Game") and he goes on to win by 3 shots. We all break 70. We didn't get rained on too much. We got off the course before it really started coming down.

Playing With the Python Imaging Library (PIL)

I wanted to graph some stock transaction data for the little bit of money that I have in a Roth IRA. I couldn't figure out how to get pychart to do what I wanted. So, I installed PIL and was able to produce the above with this python script.

The gray rectangles are the stock's price range for a day of trading. Red circles are purchases. Blue circles are sells. Circle size is proportional to the amount of the transaction. The littlest red circles are automatic purchases of $400 worth of stock made every Tuesday (with a $4 transaction cost).

I really missed the chance to make a lot of money when I sold where the biggest blue circle is. = (

Three Front Nines at McClain

I played three front nines at McClain today. My best round was a 31. If I take my best score on each hole for the day, my "best hole round" was 30. The best I ever remember shooting on the front nine is a 30. So, I think 30 is realistically the best I can expect to shoot at McClain until I get better.

Holes 2 and 5 give me a lot of trouble. On all the other holes, the worst I did was a 4. I didn't par 9 once. And, I lost another disc on hole 2. = (

This man brought us Emacs.

Crazy Person Picture

Check out this picture of one of my favorite crazy people, Richard C. Hoagland. Even though there is no audio, you can just tell he's in the middle of saying something completely insane.

I don't know how to put into words how awesome this picture is.

McClain Disc Golf Tournament Results

There was a tournament at Brian McClain Park over the weekend. McClain is where I play most of my disc golf. The results of that tournament are here:

For me, these are the noteworthy things about these results:

1) The lowest round was a 48. That is amazing. My lowest round on that course is a 63. I've done that a couple of times. A 48 is 15 shots better than my best score. That's almost 1 shot per hole better. That is awesome.

2) The "best" disc golfer in San Antonio didn't play in this tournament. What's up with that?

3) None of my friends played in the tournament. I thought PaulB might have played but he didn't.

4) If I had played in the "Recreational" division, I maybe could have placed in the money. I shoot a lot of 65's. Back to back 65's would have done it.

5) The difference in scores between the men and the women is dramatic. I might be as good as the best female player who played in the tournament. I saw the best female player throw a couple shots on hole 2. She was good but her scores ended up being right around what I shoot.

6) It doesn't look like anybody was sandbagging. All the scores seem to be appropriate for the divisions they are in.

7) I need to get better. The good news is that there is a lot of room for improvement.
